Wreath #1

That's right, it's officially wreath season at my Crazy house! I made my first (of several?) holiday wreaths this weekend. I've seen similar ones all over Pinterest & my favorite blogs. My instructions are listed below, but it's very easy. This tutorial is mostly for the felt flowers, which look very easy (and they are!) but until I did a little research, I wasn't exactly sure how to do them. So on with the show...here's how to make your very own yarn wreath with felt flowers.

Start with some yarn, felt, a foam wreath form, and hot glue. Other decorations are optional. I used the glittery balls from a glittery sparkly thing I got at JoAnn's. (They also have these at Hobby Lobby, as I mentioned during 16 Days of Crafting, in the "Sparkly Twiggy Things" section) Oh...I crack myself up!

Start by cutting a circle of felt for the flowers. If you want a more uniform look, a regular circle is fine. I did a circle with a wavy border for a little more irregular look. (This way it will end up looking more like the flower has "petals".)

Cut into the circle going around the outer edge, making the whole thing into one long strip. Here's what it should look like after you finish cutting:

I didn't get a really good picture of the next step :( But what you need to do is take the center of the circle and start twisting the rest of the fabric around it. I hot-glued it every so often as I was working so that it stayed in place. Then I glued a sparkly ball in the middle. Here's what the finished product will look like:

Next, I wrapped the yarn around the wreath form (once again no photo - but really that's fairly self-explanatory!) This part probably takes the longest. I also hot-glued the yarn every so often as I wrapped to keep it in place. Then I pinned the flowers on a couple different ways before I decided for sure where they belonged. Finally, I hot glued the flowers onto the wreath.

I hung the wreath from my dining room mirror with a wide red ribbon. Super simple!

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. There are so many more cute wreath designs I want to make...what will be next?
