Supersize, Please!

Has anyone else noticed that the sizes of our soft drinks are just getting out of control? I may be revealing a little too much about my age, but I remember when the Quick Trip "Squart" was first introduced. You know the one, basically just a big water bottle with a straw, but it was 32 ounces.  (squirt bottle + quart = squart) It was HUGE. Anyway, I stopped in yesterday at the same QT where I bought my first Squart years ago (only now it's Kum & Go, but whatever). I was thirsty and just wanted a small soft drink. The SMALLEST size is now the 32 ounce cup!  My choices were 32, 42 or 52 ounces! Why not just go ahead and sell it by the gallon with an extra long straw?!

Not to get on my soapbox (oops, too late - already did) but I think this says a LOT about the health of most Americans. A friend of mine recently started a blog about healthy eating choices, http://thehealthdiary.wordpress.com/ and recommended a GREAT book: Food Rules: an Eater’s Manual,By Michael Pollan. You wouldn't expect a book about food to be all that exciting, but it's a short, easy read and has a lot of good tips on eating healthier.  For example, Rule #2 is Don't eat anything your grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. That pretty much says it all.  Take a look at the ingredient list on a box of cookies or cereal some day and you'll see what I mean!

  1. I will have to check out the book, is it just something you read online?

Alos, regarding your New Year's Resoultions I was thinking I could feature you on my blog. I was thinking I could do a post about your blog. Let me know if you are interested. :) It's not like I have tons of followers since I am private, but a few more people to read!

  2. It is a real book. Very short - only 139 pages, but lots of info. (And you know me, I love a good non-fiction book with lots of FACTS! They come in handy when playing Trivial Pursuit!)

I would be honored to be "featured" on your blog! Maybe I could make a special little button advertising it on my blog, that no one reads. :) Except you!

  4. Hi Cindy, thanks for visiting my blog! Yes, definitely have her give you my email. I'd love to visit yours too. I have totally been bitten by the blog bug! As far as becoming a follower, I just now added a "follower" button at the top right side of the blog. In my limited blog knowledge, I think that's what I needed to do in order for people to follow - ??? We'll see! Thanks again for reading!
