Frugal Holidays: Day 1 - No Sew Scarf

So a while ago, my sister suggested that I do a Christmas version of my "16 Days of Creating". I wasn't really sure I had that many ideas for 16 days' worth of stuff. Then another idea popped into my head after wasting time doing some research on Pinterest. There are so many great ideas out there for unique, inexpensive gifts, Christmas decorations, etc. I have a few ideas of my own and thought I would share them! I'm not exactly sure how many days I will post, but I'm going to do my best to share some good ones!

My first project is this No-Sew Scarf that I made. If you live in a cold place like IOWA, you will definitely need one of these to be warm and stylish this winter! A group of women at my church got together to do this last week. I don't have pictures of the whole process, but it's so easy! And if you have a group of people to share the cost of the yarn, it can be super cheap, too! Here's how it's done:

First - pick your yarn. There are SOOO many neat choices out there! You will need approximately 10-12 strands of yarn.

Next - lay out the yarn on a table (or one woman said she had used her bed - if you don't have a very long table). Cut each strand about 8 feet long.

Last step - start tying knots. Gather all the strands and tie several big knots. I draped the untied "scarf" around my neck and looked in a mirror to decide where to place the knots. Mine are spaced about every 10 inches throughout the scarf. I also made one by just braiding the yarn and really like the look of that one too.

Here are the finished products...pretty snazzy!!
