Fall Floral Wreath

Since I have really been into making floral crafts lately, I thought a fall wreath would be cute & easy to do. It was easy, but a little more time-consuming than I expected. Oh well, it was worth it in the end.

Here are the instructions if you'd like to follow along!

STEP 1:
Select fabric & cut out several circles of differing sizes. For each flower, I used 4 circles ranging from 3 inches to 1 1/2 inches. (Toward the end when I was getting low on fabric, I found that layering 2 circles looks just as good, and takes less time!) Anything with polyester works great. It needs to "melt" and cotton won't work. I bought some lining fabric in 4 different colors, 1/8 yard each for about $2 total.

Don't worry if the circles aren't perfect.

STEP 2:
Playing with Fire! Carefully "melt" the edge of the circle with a votive candle. (Disclaimer: Be safe with fire. Remember Stop, Drop & Roll!) You may want to experiment a little. Some fabric catches fire VERY easily, while others just melt. Don't be alarmed if you burn a hole all the way through, you can usually cover it up.

Here's what it will look like after the "melting" process:

STEP 3:
Once you have finished several circles of different sizes, layer them together to make the flower. At this point, I hand-stitched them (just 2 stitches) to keep everything in place. (And yes, I did consider using a stapler.)

STEP 4:
You knew there HAD to be a hot glue gun! Take the gun & put a small amount in the center of the flower. (Zoo Pals plate optional)

STEP 5:
BLING! I used flat jewels in the middle of the flowers for that extra "dazzle." (These were on clearance at the craft store. $2 for a bag of about 200.) I tried to pick fall-ish colors. Not sure how that blue one ended up in there!

The finished flower - with bling.

STEP 6:
I used a 14" styrofoam wreath from the craft store that was $4. I painted it tan just in case any showed through between the flowers.

STEP 7:
Go crazy with the hot glue gun & place flowers on your wreath!

AND FINALLY...the finished product - a new fall wreath for under $10:
